Things to do in Alaska

Alaska is a beautiful place to travel and be with nature, watch wildlife, islands, Glaciers, whales, mountains, Northern lights and so on... Each place in Alaska is Unique so we need more time to enjoy it. I have been to couple of places in Alaska and many more to go.

Anchorage:

Most of the people travel to Anchorage in flight or cruise ship and drive to Denali National park, Seward, Fairbanks. Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, it has many places to visit and restaurants for food lovers. The Anchorage Museum is the largest history, art and science museum. We need at least 2 to 3hrs to to see the entire museum. We can learn about the history of the indigenous people of Alaska.

We can visit Captain Cook Statue and a park near to sit and watch the sea. There are plenty trails near the park.  Alaska wildlife conservation center or zoo to watch the wildlife. Beluga view point to watch Beluga whales in season. There are lot of cruise tours or helicopter rides to see the glaciers.

Seward:

Seward is a port city in southern Alaska. It's 2hrs journey from Anchorage. We can go by train or take a rental car and drive to it. The journey towards is unforgettable, we can see the glaciers from highway and sea on the side to watch whales if we are lucky :). We can book cruise tours in Seward to see islands, glaciers, whales, seals and many more marine animals. We can even stay at the islands (fox island) as well. If you miss the cruise, don't worry, drive for 10 mins and a small hike to see the glacier. This glacier is called Exit glacier. It's very easy hike and multiple viewpoints to see the glacier. If you're lucky, you will encounter with bears or moose.

Whittier:

Whittier is a small city in Alaska and 1hr drive from Anchorage. To enter the city, we need to drive through the tunnel which has a railway track. We are allowed to go through the tunnel every 15mins or 30mins only  so please check the timings. Cruises tours are available here to see Glaciers. Bryan Glacier is a 2mile easy hike. This hike is outside Whittier.

Fairbanks:

Fairbanks is coldest and second large city in Alaska. There are many places to visit in Fairbanks. Most people travel to Fairbank to see the northern lights, Santa house, Car museum, Chena hot springs. Different tours are available in Chena hot springs and Ice museum as well. Lot of buses tours are available to go and see the northern lights.

Denali National park:

A must visit place in Alaska is Denali National Park. Denali National park offers abundant wild life viewing, mountains, hikes, camping. Park open to vehicles from May to September. Only buses tours are allowed in that time frame. Cars are allowed through lottery for three or four days in an year in September 3rd week. After that, the park will be closed for winter activities. If you want visit only Denali, i would suggest to fly to Fairbanks, it's 2 1/2 hr drive to the park.
